Fibrominn Plant Wins Environmental Award
The Fibrominn Biomass Power Plant received the "Green Business and Environmental Management" award at the Minnesota Environmental Initiative Awards in May of 2008. The award is presented annually to a partnership that successfully reduces the environmental footprint of business activities or solves environmental challenges through the creation of a new business.
Since Fibrominn began operations in Benson, Minnesota in October, 2007, the 55-megawatt plant has provided an important service to the regional poultry industry by utilizing annually more than 500,000 tons of poultry litter and other biomass materials. By transporting the litter directly to the plant, Fibrominn and Minnesota turkey farmers are reducing nuisance odors for local residents and decreasing the nutrient burden on groundwater and waterways.
"This is a tremendous honor that acknowledges our effort to address important environmental challenges in a meaningful way," said Rupert Fraser, CEO of Fibrowatt. "Our technology allows Fibrominn to generaate renewable energy without introducing any new greenhouse gases into the environment."

Fibrowatt Named a Finalist for the Platts 10th Annual Global Energy Award
Fibrowatt was selected as a finalist for Platts 10th Annual Global Energy Awards in the category of Sustainable Technology Innovation of the Year. Fibrowatt was one of four finalist considered for this award, which was offered for the first time in 2008.
The Sustainable Technology Innovation of the Year award was created to specifically recognize a significant effort in the quest for a carbon neutral world, and recognize the most innovative technological advance in the area of "green" technology -- whether in the design of new renewable energy generation, energy storage, advanced propulsion systems, greenhouse gas capture or containment, or energy efficiency.
The Platts 10th Annual Global Energy Awards were announced on December 3, 2008, at a ceremony in New York City. While Fibrowatt was not named the winner, the Board, Officers and Staff of Homeland Renewable Energy and Fibrowatt LLC were delighted to have been considered, and honored at this recognition of our technology and its application at the Fibrominn power plant.
